FFVT Fellowship Programme

FFVT Fellowship: Connecting Research – Advancing Knowledge

The Forced Migration and Refugee Studies: Networking and Knowledge Transfer (FFVT) project has a clear mission: to strengthen the role of German research in the international academic landscape of forced migration and refugee studies.

To achieve this, bicc - Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies, the Centre for Human Rights Erlangen-Nuremberg (CHREN) and the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at Osnabrück University have joined forces. Together, we are committed to fostering international exchange and collaboration in refugee and forced migration research.

A key element of this effort is the FFVT Fellowship Programme. It offers researchers the opportunity to connect with leading German research institutions, advance their own projects and build long-term international collaborations in the field of forced migration and refugee studies.

What does the fellowship offer?

  • Intensive exchange with the teams of FFVT partner institutes and other scholars.

  • Participation in projects and events hosted by the FFVT partner institutions.

  • Integration into the German research landscape on forced migration.

  • Flexible stays from two weeks (IMIS) to up to two months (bicc) – including the opportunity to visit other research centres.

  • Access to the FFVT alumni network, a community of international experts that fosters long-term exchange and collaboration beyond the fellowship period.

  • Financial support: Living expenses for the duration of the stay and travel costs are covered.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from:

  • PhD candidates who have been working on a relevant research topic for at least one year.

  • Postdoctoral researchers and senior scholars actively advancing their field of research.

  • Established researchers interested in short-term stays, workshops, teaching or academic exchange opportunities in Germany.

Our fellowship programme provides a stimulating, interdisciplinary research environment and an excellent opportunity to expand international networks.
